Robert Lake (owner) started his freelance business in 2007 by providing his service to clients needing industrial design help. Through the three years of the business existence, it has changed names four times before setting on the current name, Up.Top Designs. Stephanie Lake presented the name to Robert (She also created the signature logo that portrays Up.Top Designs goal to reach high and dream big to give clients high quality designs.). Jay Seppela of Houghton, Michigan, was the first client to give a project to the business. He wanted designs concepts and technical drawings of his front mounted spare tire mount that would be an accessory for trucks and SUVs. GHSP (Grand Haven Stamp Products) was next to follow with two projects one of with, the successful Odyssey 2, jump-started the business. With the success of the Odyssey 2 Towing Electrical Systems of Youngstown, Ohio wanted to use the same designer on their projects to replicate the process GHSP used to create the next generation of brake controllers.
Up.Top Designs has begun recreating itself in November of 2014 with the help of the MTEC SmartZone. The business still offers Industrial Design but now evolved to have services in Engineering and Manufacturing through a virtual team consisting of Towing Electrical Systems and GreenForces.
