One step at a time. You'll get it there.
When I resigned from my work in 2010, I was ready to be a full time freelancer. Or so, I thought to myself. I was able to earn from a handful of writing sites, but writing tasks got fewer and fewer so I had to search for greener pastures. In 2013, I finally got to work full time on Upwork. I started slow at $2.50 per hour, and gradually moved up. The tasks I took varied from data entry, transcription, VA tasks, admin tasks. You name it, I probably would have done it at one point. The most I was able to earn was about 30k per week, but my health suffered a lot so I knew I wasn’t doing it right.
Fast forward to 2017. I’m now more in control of my online career. I still have a lot of ongoing contracts, on an as needed basis. I have retained a few clients – the ones who gave me the least stress and have been my clients for years. I’m now a Top Rated freelancer on Upwork. I also now have my own store on Shopee, as well as a physical store. Current average monthly income: P15+20k weekly.
Freedom comes with great responsibility. I started to work at home that required long hours in front of my pc with a strong sense of purpose and commitment, and the drive to overcome the challenges of working completely on your own time that required self-discipline.
urrently I am enjoying the best years of my life. All those tears and frustrations of the past are all behind me. I found a life partner, the love of my life, who supports me in everything I do, and we were blessed with a daughter.
his time I don’t have to stay away from my family to earn a decent living. I now get to spend precious time with my daughter;
A cliché advice I can give is: “eyes on the prize”. Don’t get distracted by the necessary steps to claim your prize. The prize is yours for the taking, all you have to do is reach for it. It’s right there waiting, and as good as non-existent if you just stare at the prize but never made a move towards it.
My greatest achievement so far, is not financial independence, I consider this a “bonus”. No amount of money can measure the time I am with my husband and adorable daughter. I am blessed to have witness the firsts in her life and at the same time help my husband with our finances. I realized that we can be anything that we want to be as long as we work hard and have the passion for it. Cheers to all work at home moms out there!! It’s not easy especially when you don’t have a helper like me, but it’s worth it.
o can you imagine? If I worked in a corporate industry do you think it’s easy for us to transfer from one place to another? So, again I love being VA! One more thing, I have opened my own little e-commerce business of just learning stuff from different tasks I’ve handled. I incorporated everything I’ve learned and still working in progress.
My advice to newbies, never stop learning. I take this Bill Gates quote seriously: “If you’re born poor, it’s not your mistake. But if you die poor, it’s your mistake.”
