I am a physicist by training; I have been trained intensively in problem-solving of highly complex problems, using mathematical, statistical, and computational techniques. I enjoyed the process of research as much as the physics itself. Now I am using the skill kit that I have to solve data-related problems and lead data-driven projects.
My take on the scouting problem of your soccer club is as follows:
• To solve the problem, I plan to ask the following questions and collect and analyze data to answer them.
1. Popular times of travel
o What is the most common month?
o What is the most common day of the week?
o What is the most common hour of the day?
2. Popular stations and trip
o What are the most common start stations?
o What are the most common end stations?
o What are the most common trips from start to end (i.e., most frequent combination of start station and end station)?
3. Trip duration
o total travel time?
o average travel time?
4. User info
o counts of each user type?
o counts of each gender?
o earliest, most recent, most common year of birth?
• Answering these questions will provide key insight s into the high demand v.s. low supply in different stations at certain times yearly, monthly, and daily, which will help your company make better decisions in this regard.
• I will gather more data than you provided to answer more questions about the forecast and other factors that could affect your customers.
• I will use all the available data to train a machine learning model to predict when and where the next demand-supply imbalance will happen and accordingly provide you the most suitable solutions in each situation for the benefit of the customer and the company.
• The final results will be presented to you in the form of an attractive easy to understand report which includes stats and numbers that will affect your final decision effectively and positively.
