Developmental editing focuses on the content of your manuscript (whether it's finished, or you're still in the process of writing). It focuses on plot, character building, chapter shaping, consistency, setting/world-building and exposition, author voice, narrative pace, themes and imagery. It can also involve discussion and consideration of series ideas, genre, potential market/reader expectations, packaging and marketing. In addition, a developmental edit will tackle various craft issues: sentence structure, grammar, word choice, crutch words, dialogue and appropriate regional dialect. During a developmental edit, your manuscript will be edited several times using Microsoft Word Track Changes, and each time, you'll be provided with an edit letter. I will always be available to discuss your edits via Skype or email if you'd like to ask further questions or bounce around ideas. Developmental editing is charged at $0.009 per word, which covers the entire service, including copy editing.
