25 years or so of creative mechanical design and manufacturing experience: medical devices, high-end audio electronics, and musical instruments. Expertise in ideation, complex 3D modeling, 3D printing, injection molding, sheet metal, materials, mechanisms, fixtures, fabrics, foams, graphics. My work has been exhibited at MoMA. Really — look me up! (See link below) I also have a BSEE, so I'm fairly competent with electronic components, equipment, and tasks. My particular standout talent seems to be the ability to design, make, fix, find, and/or modify almost anything needed, really fast, with my own hands and minimal equipment. Throw in a cheap 3D printer and there really isn't much I can't do, faster and cheaper than expected. I can sew too. Many people I've worked with call me "MacGyver". That's pretty accurate, and shows that they have come to understand the value I bring to whatever they are trying to do. My default mode is usually to do most everything myself, but recently I've learned it's even better to have like-minded collaborators involved too — that's when the real magic happens. And that's why I'm looking for interesting projects to help with on Upwork. Which brings to mind another skill: I know how to listen. It's an art. I've found this is what most often makes the difference between intended success and confused failure. Lastly, I always strive to break the "pick 2 of 3" rule; I'm only really satisfied when I can do something fast, cheap, AND good. -Matt
