As a general linguist, I have enjoyed copy editing the most. It requires a very specific skills set: the obvious grammatical competencies; the less obvious 'crap detector' skill; a good memory to spot repetition or discrepancies; the ability to retain the style of the author whilst ensuring that the report has a smooth flow; for multi-author documents the style component is crucial to ensure that the document is written / edited to reflect a universal style. For copy-editing I apply the specific Style Guidelines requested by the client. A skill that is not often mentioned in quasi-academic and academic documents is meticulous referencing - I am great at ensuring that the references are clean, verifiable and consistent. Proofreading: an analysis of website figures show that a single spelling mistake can cut online sales in half. Misspellings put off consumers who could have concerns about a website's credibility. I will ensure that your website copy is clean and easy to read.
