All the right words, in print or on the web
I'm an Atlanta girl who moved to New York City. My B.A./M.A. in English is from Emory University. In the Big Apple I worked for several magazines and for a literary agent. I learned book editing while on staff with Crown Publishers as a production editor. I also have been a ghostwriter, freelance copyeditor and proofreader for top publishers.
With commission in hand to write a book about elephants, I departed for adventures in East Africa, where I married and raised our family. I have worked as an independent contractor with conservationists, peacemakers and other academics to produce a number of excellent books and reports.
As my nest emptied, Iike many mamas I've worked to add new skills to my toolkit: ebooks, websites and other web-based content/copywriting as well as social media, college essay and ESL writing coaching. The freelance life continues to work well for me as I spend part of my time back in Georgia lending a hand to my parents.
What does my backstory mean for you, as my employer?
I am a highly motivated self-starter who has built strong skills by working steadily on a series of challenging projects--despite a location remote from the publishing capitals of the world. Living and working outside the U.S. has broadened my perspective in extremely helpful ways. I am passionate about editing and writing and do this work very, very well. As my client, you'll benefit from my resourcefulness, strong work ethic, and experience with authors and projects from many cultures.
Expect me to apply my determination and creativity to making your project the best it can be. I respect deadlines and communicate frequently to ensure all is on track. I believe I possess a rare ability to put myself in the place of both the reader and the author, suggesting changes that truly enhance your voice and make your message more readable.
Your book, website or other project will be in capable hands, and service will be rendered with good cheer and no drama.
