I once was apart of a group project for my Political Science class at the University of Maryland, where one of my group members was a blind person. It was great having her in the group, because I got opportunity to gain insight into her student experience as a person with a disability. Prior to being in the same group with her, I would often wonder about what it took for her to get her assignments done as she sit in front of class everyday. During our group meetings, she explained her difficulties and the length of time it took for her to get her assignments done. She of course had accommodations and protections under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This gave her the additional time and assistance she needed, but her convictions and determination made her efforts inspiring. This experience gave me awareness and made me more empathetic to disability and accessibility causes.

Years later, I landed a position at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) where I was the Senior Paralegal/ Federal Register Liaison for the Legal Department. This position in entailed remediating pdf documents for 508 Compliance, before it was sent off to the Federal Register. I have been working in Accessibility and 508 Compliance since then.
