Slaying typos and busting misinformation one sentence at a time.
I am a life-long science enthusiast and, more recently, academic literature search wizard. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wittenberg University, I had the sudden, mortifying realization that no one could pay me enough money to listen to their personal problems, and abruptly jumped ship from psychology back to my first science love: biology. My psychology background thankfully became the backbone of my master’s work on bug phobias and their effect on support and funding for invertebrate conservation. I went on to create a summer camp curriculum for Heartland Farm Sanctuary on the importance of bugs to a healthy planet, and later obtained an internship with science communication duo The Bug ChicksⓇ, with whom I continue to collaborate on an ambitious, “game-ified” STEAM + SEL (social-emotional learning) elementary school curriculum. While my degree is in biology, my training is in science communication, which prepared me for a writing and editing career in a wide range of fields.
I am also a freelance science writer and editor; rare and chronic disease advocate; and write a blog where I answer readers’ questions about bugs. When I'm not using my brain for science communication, I enjoy conducting backyard experiments in gardening, composting, invertebrate surveys, and habitat restoration. During the summer, I also participate in the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project and the Monarch Watch butterfly tagging program as a community scientist and share my results and methods on social media.
Work Terms
I prefer to communicate via e-mail and Zoom, but am flexible if neither of those methods work for my clients. Typically, I will have clients either email me a detailed list or description of what they want their final document to look like, and/or will have them discuss those details with me over Zoom. Clients are always welcome to message me at any time with questions or project details, but I will only respond between the hours of 12:00 PM and 8 PM EST. Clients must be able to communicate their project needs in English, but need not be perfectly fluent.
