About

I'm Argentinian, so Spanish is my first language, but I've studied English all my life. My parent were taught by native speakers, nuns and the like, and when we kids were little they spoke in English when they didn't want us to know what they were talking about. With time, my older brothers and sisters joined. So, obviously, I had to learn, there really was no choice in the matter. Still, it wasn't bad, I had English in school anyway.
Also, with older brothers and sisters choosing what tv program we watched I had no choice but to listen in English. I can say I learned my American pronunciation from Friends as a teenager, but even as a kid, instead of watching "chiquititas" like others at school, I watched "Full House" and I think I even have some memories of "Little house on the prairie". All this helped, because I learned without meaning to and so I never thought of it as a terrible class or chore I had to do, like math. Even music helped, my brothers played ACDC, my sister danced to Madonna and my parents chose classics. It even allowed me to read the Harry Potter books in the original English instead of having to wait for the Spanish version. At least since number four when my English was good enough to get the jokes and idioms.
It was some kind of obligation, something you had to do, or had to know, but something I loved anyway. Because my parents weren't strict or in your face about it, I didn't have bad feelings about learning the language. I even thought it was pleasant to the ears and couldn't wait till I could speak fluently without a Spanish word in the middle. Now, I can. I have a C2 level, meaning I'm fluent. I got a C in my Cambridge exams, a long time ago in high school, mind you but because I was very nervous and overslept and had to give the exam with strangers from another school. Still, it meant I passed and got my certificate of advanced English. I got even better with time because I used English in various jobs and courses. I've done translation work in some of my jobs and gotten good feedback so I wanted to make an income out of it.
And I have some artistic hobbies. I paint. I love gardening and crafts of all kinds. I'm a licensed pastry chef. I have a diploma in advanced cosmetology and did a course in natural cosmetology. And since I've been diagnosed with a gluten allergy, I'm learning about everything gluten free. That's me right now.
