I am a small cog in the great machinery – I provide key services that are vital for an organisation or individual to perform optimally, but that are not necessarily their main focus.
I am a detail orientated systems thinker. I understand how things fit into the big picture and how the small details can make significant impact.
My main professional focus is management of quality and reduction of risk. To this end I place great emphasis on the accuracy of correct data and the clear understanding of policy, process and procedure.
Over the last 15 years my experience has been in academics and quality management where I have worked to standardise processes, draft meaningful policy, understand data, and managed quality. My work has taken me across the world: from South Africa through the United Kingdom, to the Middle East, West Africa and Eastern Europe, to here and now in Canada. My positions have included Senior Lecturer, Healthcare Consultant, and Manager of Quality, Risk and Safety. I have worked across organisational hierarchy, from front line staff and undergraduate students, to executives, the board and research professors. As varied as my work are the industries in which I been involved with: healthcare, mining, solar energy, non-governmental organisations, non-profit organisations, and restaurants.
My key areas of strength and expertise:
* Data management: collection, capture, validation, and use of electronic and paper-based data
* Quality measurement: development of metrics and indicators
* Quality standards: preparing organisations to meet standards (ISO, etc.) and developing standards
* Policy drafting: meaningful policy drafting and revision with focus on health & safety, performance management, and quality assurance
* Process and procedure development: creating workflows, simplifying process, process mapping, developing decision trees
* Clinical and operational audit: measurement against existing standards and development of audit tools
* Research and data analytics: designing and using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to understand the issues
* Operational risk management
* Resume drafting for individuals
