Ideas float around us constantly, and its our responsibility as innovators to not only facilitate the uptake of new ideas, but reimagine old ones as technology continuously improves. I’m fueled by the knowledge that no matter who we are or what we do, technology will one day change the way we do everything. The only way to get there is through collaborative effort: the data--knowledge gap is far too vast for any single entity to overcome. I’m certain of this because the more I learn, the more I’m certain I 'know' absolutely nothing (a wonderfully paradoxical way to exist).
Over the past four years, I’ve been fortunate to be part of something greater than myself – an endeavor whose noble goal is to change people’s lives for the better. What started as our family’s attempt to cope with a life altering chronic disease eventually became an opportunity to change the way we harness the power of health data (often called “big data”). Betterpath attempted to answer the simple question: “How do we look at the entirety of a patient?”
Betterpath unknowingly built the foundation for an entirely new approach to medical research by fulfilling our obligation to each patient we served. We promised to find as much information as possible and render it into a digestible format, and executed on this concept in IBD by painstakingly building software smart enough to reorganize unstructured data into practical information. By focusing on the most primary form of clinical evidence – the medical record – we imagined one of the most highly categorized data resources ever conceived. Although it's difficult to part ways with an organization I helped build, I am grateful for the lifetime of experience these last 4 years afforded. Thankfully, there is still much work to be done to discover the power of data-driven research. I leave my Betterpath years emboldened by the possibilities and humbled by the enormity of the task to help sick people feel better.
Work Terms
Available for work M-F, 8am to 8pm EST.
Starting rate: $35/hr, with a "free-trial" (up to 8hrs working on one project - if brought in for more work, "free-trial" will be billed on first invoice)
If work exceeds 25hrs/week, rate increases to $40/hr.
