Root and Branch Editing is run by Nick Hodgson. Nick has more than fifteen years' experience as a successful freelance editor, proofreader, copywriter and transcriber.
After graduating with a first class degree in Literature and Linguistics from the University of Birmingham, UK, I decided to pursue my love of language and books by going into publishing.
I have been working successfully as a writer, editor, proofreader, journalist, tutor, and transcriber for more than fifteen years. My experience ranges from being the Asia Desk editor for an international news agency to authoring books for children. I now offer a wide range of editorial, writing, proofreading and transcription services.
I often work for book publishers, book packagers, and independent authors, with a particular specialism in illustrated non-fiction books. I have worked on a huge range of subjects, from structural engineering to beekeeping; from Japanese graphic design to Latin for gardeners.
I also work as an academic editor, proofreading and editing papers, essays, theses and dissertations for undergraduate and graduate students and academics.
The other main service I offer is transcription. I can type 70+wpm (words per minute), and given that I am a professional editor, I make sure that my transcriptions are polished, perfectly spelt and completely accurate.
Work Terms
I am available to work 7 days a week if necessary, and I am used to working to tight deadlines and quick turnarounds.
Clients in the US may find it particularly beneficial to use me given that I am based in the UK and the time difference will work in your favor: I can work on a job 'overnight' and have material ready for you the next morning.
