About

I want to bring empathy and levity to the act of transmitting language. Hopefully, that makes me a versatile and adaptive writer.

Ever seen the movie Whiplash? I'm not saying that's always how music school IS--but it's often how music school feels. When I was 18 years old I dropped out of music school after my very own J.K. Simmons convinced me I needed a change.

I worked the kinds of jobs that build character, and make you want to go back to college. I directed a daycare, I worked in a sheet metal shop, I did retail (we all do retail, right?) I even waited tables for a while (and I wasn't even an actor!)

Once I got back to college, I tried a little bit of everything. I studied topics from the history of European Warfare, to the filmic qualities of Buster Keaton. I wound up with a degree in sociology and a minor in writing.

I applied to grad school, worked for several years on my MA in writing. While there, I helped teach playwriting, I was the president and Editor-in-Chief of our student arts and literature journal, and I wrote op-ed pieces for our school newspaper (the North Texas Daily).

I then took a short hiatus to study game design at Southern Methodist University. I didn't finish my degree there, but I learned a lot about game design and about technical writing.

Last year, I returned to UNT to complete my MA thesis. I successfully defended in May of 2015.

These days I teach SAT prep to college bound high school kids (grammar, critical reading, rhetorical analysis, basic essay writing). I also write the odd article for ESPN, Scout.com, or I write pieces for human beings like you.

I have a pretty wide pool of knowledge, but above all things: l love language.

Hopefully I can put that obsession to use for you.

Work Terms

I'm a night owl, so you might not expect to hear from me at 7 or 8 a.m.

On the other hand, if you're scrambling to get a project done BY 8 a.m. and it's three a.m., I'm the kind of person who's wide awake and willing to talk through your concerns and help you get a project under control.

I'm best reached through email (simply because it means none of your information gets lost in translation or via a faulty memory), but if you need a quick change on a time-sensitive project, I'm absolutely available to talk on the phone or via Skype/FaceTime.
