Your Partner in Your Best Dissertation: Coaching and Developmental Editing
I edit academic papers, theses and dissertations, specializing in papers written by non-native speakers of English. I work in Microsoft Word, using the tracking feature. I edit to whatever style is required by an author's intended source of publication, usually in APA, MLA, or Chicago Manual of Style. Most of my clients are in the behavioral and social sciences and education, but I have also edited manuscripts in engineering, business, and humanities. I began editing at a linguistics institute in South Korea many years ago, where I also taught English and writing at Seoul National University. My career took me into water resources and climate change, and my editing expanded to include economic and scientific papers. My clients have included researchers at research institutes as well as graduate students and faculty at Harvard, Oxford, U. Chicago, Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern, Myongji (S. Korea), and many others. Most of my editing is done as a freelancer for Cambridge Editors, where you can see my bio also: https://cambridgeeditors.com/editors/ I have a Ph.D. from Cornell and masters degrees from Columbia and U. of Colorado.
I am also a coach for graduate students who are feeling stuck in their writing or unsure of their direction. My coaching clients typically can't get enough of their advisors' time to have the conversations they need. I provide feedback, encouragement, strategies, and a sympathetic ear. My coaching rate is $35/hr.
Work Terms
I am committed to helping my clients meet their deadlines with the best possible document. My editing, including developmental editing (for structure) is $30/hour, and my coaching (telephone) is $35/hour. My process is customized to each client's needs, but in a typical process a client sends me an email with a document, a deadline, and instructions on what the client wants. I may respond with questions, but always confirm receipt. I edit as needed, return the document, and (for clients that request this) follow up with a phone call to discuss the edits, or the next steps in writing, or how to handle a tricky section.
