When I was in my first sales role for a growth stage CPG business in Canada, I identified we had a problem.
Sales were bad.
But more significantly, we didn't know why.
So instead of doing my actual job, I spent several weeks investigating. I asked questions to all buyers and consumers.
Hard hitting questions about the hidden reasons behind why they buy, what motivates them, the problems they're trying to solve, the goals they're trying to reach.
I came out of it with a ton of clarity.
We needed to change our positioning, and product.
The business went on to tripling revenues.
Throughout the last 5 years I have spent the last 5 years working with businesses of all sizes, stages, and verticals get a clearer understanding of what their customers care about.
It's resulted in a much closer alignment between the business and their customer.
