My trade is writing, and I have been a mainstream published writer since 1974. I have also had a long career as a teacher of high school and tertiary level English.
My life experience has been very wide, and this enriches my writing. I have worked as a nurse, journalist and teacher; have lived in the inner city, the suburbs and on a farm. I draw on this in my own writing. I have travelled fairly widely, mostly in Europe.
I enjoy research in different contexts, for example, my own university education; ensuring no blunders in my fiction writing, and preparing complex units of work for students from Grade 7 to 12.
When I worked via Guru prior to 2011, I had undertaken several assignments: one that was memorable was a travel piece on Christchurch, New Zealand. The piece was enriched because I had travelled there fairly recently. Sadly, some of the beautiful buildings I wrote about--like the Arts Centre, and the Youth Hostel across the road from it, were badly damaged in the earthquake. Since 1996, I have travelled solo to many countries. Some of these are: United States, England, Scotland, Eire, Finland, France, China,Indonesia, and widely within my home country, Australia.
Outside of school duties, I have taught Creative Writing to adults and teenagers.

My published work includes two novels: Jake's Luck (Allen & Unwin, 1994) and A Woman of Air (Vintage/Random House, 1996). The latter was awarded the Elle/Random House Prize for fiction. In 1974, the first short story I had written since schooldays was accepted by the magazine Cleo.

Work Terms
Because I am a retiree, there are no particular hours of operation. I am available when you wish to talk. I favour close contact when working on the project.
Contracts will be as advised by Guru.
I am always ready to negotiate re hourly or per word rates, and I am aware that most projects are not paid for at professional rates. However, I do not mind this so much--though $20/hour is acceptable..
